| Why Us |
|
Since its inception Momentum Africa has distinguished itself as an innovator in the health care
sector.
We have shown steady and healthy growth in recent years while earning a reputation for
providing quality funding and administration services that are particularly well suited to meeting
the needs of the African health care and insurance market.
One of our greatest strengths is our highly experienced and talented management team led by some
of the most respected individuals within the South African health care and insurance industries.
The group employs a number of specialists throughout its operations. |
| A Truly African Company |
|

Our business model is based on self standing business units providing administration and
risk management services for medical schemes and insurance products within each country.
Each medical scheme and insurance product is registered locally and the accumulated funds
are maintained and invested on local soil.
This enhances the performance of host country economics in general, facilitates the upgrading
of health care facilities and infrastructure, alleviates fiscal pressures on governments and
enables them to deploy more resources to pressing social upliftment and other developmental priorities. |
| Focused Solutions |
|
Since its inception in 2006 Momentum Africa has focused on remaining agile and pro-active
in providing corporate clients as well as individual members and their families with peace
of mind and personalised, client oriented services.
Momentum Africa clients are able to select the appropriate cover from a spectrum of health
care and insurance products ranging from the most comprehensive products to the most basic
health care and insurance options.
The company is at present one of few fully comprehensive, health care
fund and insurance managers that are totally geared to provide a wide range of service
options to its clients. |

| Supporting Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment |
|
At Momentum Africa we believe that education is an intrinsic element of empowerment and,
in addition to its internal training and development initiatives, Momentum Africa supports
several programmes aimed at enhancing education standards, within the Group.
Skills development
of previously disadvantaged staff is a core focus, as are: procurement and enterprise development;
the broadening of access to financial services; empowerment financing; and the support of SMEs
managed by young black people.
Momentum Africa’s parent company FirstRand has a 28 percent
black shareholding (direct and indirect) in its SA operations. Since 2003 FirstRand has channeled
over R300 million to its SME private equity fund. |

| Managing the Risks |
|
Where an employer group chooses to take up both health and other insurance products/
services, we are able to adopt an integrated risk management approach. Through our
managed health care solutions we are able to achieve substantial savings in premiums
by preventing potential disability and other claims.
Our dedicated managed health care division provides managed health care services to
medical schemes under administration. The managed health care and other risk management
processes are supported by an integrated information system.
The Momentum Africa managed health care philosophy is based on the fact that managed
health care, when implemented effectively, must measure and manage performance, delivery
and costs. As a result, the health and general well-being of the patient is automatically
assured.
It is imperative to balance the patient’s interest that includes quality, affordability
and accessibility of health care and the allocation of scarce resources.
Momentum Africa’s managed health care services include:
• Hospital risk management;
• Contracts and alternate fee schedules with health care providers;
• Retrospective review and clinical auditing of hospital accounts;
• Medicine benefit management;
• Adjudication of health care claims, including claims assessment;
• Health advice line; and
• Disease management programmes including HIV and Diabetes
